LE BOURGET—Diehl and Safran have agreed to work together on development of light modular air-to-ground munitions, the companies said at the Paris Air Show.

“The modular payloads will be specifically designed to avoid collateral damage when engaging fixed or mobile targets in complex or urban environments,” Diehl and Safran said in a June 18 statement. The weapons are targeting use on a range of platforms, they said, without identifying specific aircraft.

Diehl, which works on systems such as the Spike missile, would contribute its missile expertise, while Safran has specialization in sensor and navigation electronics.

“These new products, ranging from loitering munitions to off-board effectors and tactical air-to-ground weapons, will feature standardized interfaces to optimize and facilitate integration on a wide variety of platforms, including retrofits,” the companies said.
