Boeing’s Chinook has won out in a face-off against Sikorsky’s CH-53K King Stallion for Germany’s Heavy Transport Helicopter requirement.

The U.S. Air Force plans to field a fleet of 22 Boeing E-7A Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft to replace its 31 E-3 Sentry AWACS, with the Wedgetail having beaten out two other contenders for the program, according to a new justification document.

The Netherlands will procure additional F-35s, MQ-9 Reapers and a new fleet of medium-lift transport helicopters as part of a dramatic uptick in the country’s defense budget. 

The call comes as CAE executives say they are being told by Lockheed Martin that the fighter program’s expanding list of customers faces a shortage of training capacity for new F-35 pilots and maintainers.
