MICHAEL DEWITT was named European regional sales manager for the Caravan for Cessna Aircraft Company. DeWitt joined Cessna in 1990 as a procurement control coordinator and most recently served as Citation contract administrator.
Executive Jet International last week revealed details of its plans to integrate Gulfstream aircraft into its NetJets business aircraft fractional ownership program, with introduction of the first Gulfstream IV-SP into service in November. EJI signed a contract in January to purchase up to 22 G-IV-SP and G-V aircraft in a deal that carries a potential value of up to $500 million (BA, Jan. 23/33). Under the contract, EJI agreed to buy seven new G-IV-SPs in 1995 and 1996 with options for up to 15 more G-IV-SPs and G-Vs.
PIPER Model PA-31T2 airplanes (Docket No. 95-CE-21-AD) - proposes to require rerouting of the landing gear emergency extension air line on PA-31T2 airplanes that have a Parker Hannifin Wheel and Brake Conversion Kit 199-111 installed. This proposal is prompted by three incidents of the brake cylinder contacting the landing gear emergency extention air line on both wheels.
KOHLMAN SYSTEMS RESEARCH, INC., Lawrence, Kan., received an order from Nozaki&Co., Ltd., Tokyo, Japan, to provide predictive simulator data for the HD 500 helicopter. The data will be delivered to Japan Radio Co., Yokohama, Japan, for use in two flight training devices.
FOKKER received type certification for the Fokker 70 aircraft from the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority and has delivered the first of five F70s to British Midland. The carrier ordered four F100s and five F70s in November 1993 and took options on three aircraft that can be ordered as either type. The F100s have been delivered and the F70s will be delivered by early next year. A single type rating covers both the F70 and F7100 so pilots qualified to fly one can fly the other without additional training.
BRITISH AEROSPACE Model BAC 1-11-200 and -400 series airplanes (Docket No. 94-NM-165-AD; Amdt. 39-9188; AD 95-07-06) - requires inspections of the bearings of the aileron control system and correction of discrepancies. This amendment is prompted by a report indicating that the bearings in the aileron system seized, leading to roll control problems on one of the affected airplanes. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent such seizure of bearings, which could reduce the pilot's ability to initiate roll control during critical phases of flight.

Flightcraft, Inc., the chain of fixed-base operations in the Northwest, has sold its Seattle FBO to a new corporate entity, but will continue to operate its flight charter and maintenance business there. Ernie Sturm, president of Flightcraft, said the company sold its FBO at Boeing Field to Flight Center, Inc., a new corporation that will provide fuel service, hangar rental, parking and related services for transient and based aircraft. As part of the transaction, Flightcraft is leasing back space to house its charter and maintenance operations.
Bombardier Business Aircraft Division has reinforced its management team for the Global Express program as well as its international sales organization. The company moved Trevor Young to the newly created position of director of sales support and named Brian Adams to succeed Young as program director for the Global Express. In his new role, Young will provide "a dedicated Global Express interface and support to the sales and marketing teams," officials said.
A PRESS CONFERENCE by Bombardier and AMR Combs that had been tentatively set for this Tuesday in New York has been postponed at least until next week and possibly longer.Officials of both companies refused to comment on the subject of the delayed session, but it's believed the Canadian manufacturer and the AMR Corp. subsidiary are developing a fractional ownership program for business jets, similar to Executive Jet Aviation's highly successful NetJets program.
National Aeronautic Association President Emeritus Malveen Gross filed a class action lawsuit against Mobil this month in a San Francisco, Calif., federal court, charging that the oil company failed to disclose that Mobil AV 1 engine oil could damage Teledyne Continental piston engines.
Learjet delivered its first aircraft to a non-government operator in mainland China this month, a Model 55 the company refurbished for charter operator Hainan Airlines. Chinese government agencies operate Learjets and other business jets, but Learjet claims the 1982 Model 55 is "the first business jet in China to be operated by a non-governmental entity."
SEN. ERNEST HOLLINGS (D-S.C.), ranking Democrat on the Senate Commerce Committee, this month introduced at the request of the Clinton administration legislation, S.703, to simplify the organization of DOT into three agencies - FAA, Intermodal Transportation Administration and Coast Guard. The bill, identical to one, H.R.1440, introduced by Rep. Norman Mineta (D-Calif.) by request, would transfer the functions of the Office of Commercial Space Transportation to FAA.
SABRELINER CORPORATION was awarded a supplemental type certificate for installation of the Bendix/King CAS-66 TCAS I and the Collins Safety Program 94 package - including the TCAS-94 TCAS II, the TWR-850 Doppler radar with multi-function display and Mode S transponders - in all Sabreliner aircraft.
RAYTHEON AIRCRAFT Model BAe 125-800A and -1000A airplanes (Docket No. 93- NM-105-AD) - revises an earlier proposal that would have required inspections of the wing leading edge skins, including the wing anti-ice fluid distribution panel (TKS panel) rebate and radius; repair, if necessary, and subsequent corrosion protection treatment. That proposal was prompted by reports of corrosion of the wing leading edge skin at the interface with the TKS panels.
A U.S. AIR FORCE investigation team was still on scene Friday near Alexander City, Alabama at the site of Monday's fatal crash of a USAF C-21, the military version of the Model 35A Learjet. The aircraft had been enroute from Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington, D.C. to Randolph AFB, Tex., when the crew asked to divert to Maxwell AFB after experiencing an inflight emergency. The aircraft crashed in a wooded area near the small Alabama community, apparently while trying to make an emergency landing.
CESSNA will offer a single point refueling/defueling system on its Citation Ultra business jet beginning in June. The system involves a single point refueling compartment located beneath the right engine nacelle. "This modification will diminish the turn times for operators stopping en route for fuel and will make fueling and defueling simpler and more convenient," said Gary Hay, executive vice president, marketing and product support.
The 12-year-old Dash 8 program passed two major milestones last week, Dash 8 manufacturer Bombardier Regional Aircraft Division announced - the first Series 200 delivery and the 400th aircraft in the program to be completed. The manufacturer said 444 of the model have either been delivered or accounted for in firm orders. The first Dash 8 was rolled out April 19, 1983. The company is producing three major versions of the Dash 8 - the 37-passenger 100, 39-passenger "hot-and-high" 200 and 50-passenger 300 series - with another, the 400, under study.
NATIONAL BUSINESS AIRCRAFT ASSOCIATION said the Long Beach, Calif., City Council approved a new ordinance that establishes limited noise restrictions at the Long Beach Airport with noise limits for daytime, evening and nighttime operations. The association said the new rules establish a "noise budget" for various aviation elements operating at Long Beach, including general aviation, commercial aviation and aircraft manufacturing companies.
ELLIOTT AVIATION has expanded the regular hours of its Des Moines, Iowa service department. The department will provide piston- and turbine- aircraft maintenance 10 hours per day, six days a week. The 24-hour service callout program will remain intact, officials said.
A decision on the potential sale of John Wayne Airport, stricken from the Orange County Board of Supervisors agenda last week, has been put off for at least 60 days (BA, April 10/155). Chief Executive Officer William Popejoy removed from the board's agenda a vote on whether to issue a request for qualifications for the potential purchase of the airport.
INTERNATIONAL NACELLE SYSTEMS EEIG, a joint effort by Short Brothers plc and Hurel-Dubois, began deliveries this month of the first set of engine nacelles for the Embraer EMB-145 regional airliner. The nacelles will be integrated with the Allison AE3007 engines on the first prototype, which is scheduled to fly in June. INS is under contract to supply nacelles to Gamesa, a Spanish aerospace company. Gamesa is a risk-sharing partner in the EMB-145 program with responsibility for nacelles, wings, and wing-to- fuselage fairings.
