BOMBARDIER Model CL-600-1A11 (CL-600), CL-600-2A12 (CL-601), CL-600- 2B16 (CL-601-3A and -3R) and CL-600-2B19 (Regional Jet Series 100) series airplanes - supersedes an existing AD that requires an inspection for cracking in the rudder control quadrant, replacement of any cracked quadrant with a new assembly and retorquing of the castellated nut, as necessary.
U.S. general aviation manufacturers enjoyed a 23.9 percent increase in unit shipments and 65.8 percent increase in billings in the third quarter, according to the General Aviation Manufacturers Association. GAMA reported 259 deliveries and $802 million in billings during the third quarter of 1995 compared with 209 shipments and $484 million in billings during the same quarter in 1994.
UNC INC., Annapolis, Md., reached an agreement with Gildea Investment Company and other investors to provide up to $25 million of equity on an "as-needed" basis to help UNC finance future acquisitions. The equity will be in the form of senior cumulative convertible preferred stock, which will be purchased at $100 per share with an annual dividend rate of 8.5 percent. The preferred stock can be converted into UNC common stock at a price of $7 per share.
FLIGHTSAFETY INTERNATIONAL will install a full flight simulator for the Bell 412/212 helicopter at its Paris, France training center at Le Bourget Airport, the third 412/212 simulator and the first of its kind in Europe. The simulator at Le Bourget will be equipped with a VITAL VIII ChromaView visual system, including the chin (lower) windows and a panoramic MultiView display. The Level D simulator will be built by FSI's Simulation Systems Division in Tulsa, Okla.
ISRAEL AIRCRAFT INDUSTRIES officials expect to receive Federal Aviation Administration and Canadian certification for the Astra SPX by the end of the month. The aircraft received Civil Aviation Authority provisional approval last month.
Jet Aviation of Zurich, Switzerland signed a contract to purchase two Raytheon Aircraft Beechjet 400A business jets, and took options on 10 additional aircraft, for the Corpavia Club shared ownership program. Unlike fractional ownership programs, customers do not buy shares in individual aircraft, but instead sign up as club members and pay a one-time entrance fee. Members then pay an annual subscription plus a charge for the flying hours used. Members are entitled to 150 flight hours, with additional hours available at a higher rate.
NATIONAL AIRMOTIVE CORP. plans to offer full-service overhaul and support of Pratt&Whitney Canada PT6A turboprops, a little less than a year after deciding to get into the PT6 support business. The company will offer overhauls, repairs, hot section inspections, rentals and exchanges of PT6As at its Oakland International Airport facilities, as a complement to NAC's existing capabilities for the complete line of Allison gas turbines.
INNOTECH AVIATION LTD. renewed a joint marketing agreement with Rolls-Royce Canada, Ltd., Montreal, Canada, under which Innotech will continue as an authorized service facility for Rolls-Royce Dart, Spey and Tay engine maintenance support in Montreal and Vancouver.

BOMBARDIER AEROSPACE GROUP selected Sextant Avionique France to provide major portions of the avionics suite for the de Havilland Dash 8 Series 400 aircraft. Sextant is the fifth major program participant to be selected. Other major vendors include: Pratt&Whitney Canada, PW150 turboprop; Dowty Aerospace, a six-bladed, all-composite propeller system; Menasco, nose and main landing gear; and, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, fuselage and tail sections.

ART MONEY was nominated by the White House to become assistant secretary of the U.S. Air Force for acquisition, following a recommendation by the Defense Department. Money, who is vice president and deputy general manager of TRW Avionics and Surveillance Group, will relieve Darleen Druyun. She has filled the slot since the death of then acquisition chief Clark Fiester in a C-21 (Learjet 35) accident in Alabama (BA, May 1/183).
THE PACE of industry consolidation continues to be brisk. Lockheed Martin signed a deal to acquire GE's engine controls business and Thiokol Corporation and the Carlyle Group plan to buy precision casting specialist Howmet Corp. for $750 million. See articles below.
JON SWARTZENTRUBER was named vice president of sales and marketing for Million Air Reading. Swartzentruber, a former airline pilot, formerly was national air safety officer for the airline and was an accident investigator for the Air Line Pilots Association. He also has served as president of Fieldstone Homes.
DPI LABS, La Verne, Calif., won a contract to supply the cabin management system for the Learjet 45, the latest in a series of such contracts for Learjet and Challenger models.
John Rahilly, who in late July took the helm of K-C Aviation after longtime president Richard Emery retired, promised that K-C Aviation would continue the aggressive growth that the company has enjoyed in recent years. During last month's NBAA convention in Las Vegas, Nev., Rahilly said the company is "focused on refining our existing programs as well as implementing programs to continue our planned growth. We view our future expansions as opportunities to build long-term partnerships while providing our customers value-added services and greater resources."
RAYTHEON AIRCRAFT delivered two Beech 1900D 19-passenger regional aircraft to Midway Connection. The new aircraft will operated on routes between Raleigh-Durham, N.C. and Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach, S.C. Midway Connection, a subsidiary of Minneapolis-based Great Lakes, serves 15 locations on the Atlantic Coast and in the Caribbean from Raleigh-Durham.
INNOTECH AVIATION, LTD., Montreal, Quebec, signed a service facility agreement to support operators of the Williams-Rolls FJ44 jet engine. The agreement covers Innotech's major facilities in Montreal and Vancouver, British Columbia and includes all warranty service, service bulletin updates and provision of rental engines. Stephen K.
FLIGHTSAFETY INTERNATIONAL received contracts valued at more than $1 million from FAA to train more than 100 agency pilots and maintenance technicians on 12 different aircraft. The training will include the following courses: de Havilland Dash 8; Gulfstream I; King Air 300; helicopter instrument; Falcon 200; Fairchild SA226/227; aircraft systems training; Beech 1900 aircraft systems training; ATR 42 aircraft systems training; Beech Starship; Learjet 60 ; MU-2, and CitationJet. FSI said the training will be conducted at nine company training centers.
David Heymsfeld, a veteran Congressional staffer with broad experience in transportation issues, was named Democratic chief of staff for the House Transportation Committee last week, replacing Paul Schoellhamer. Rep. James Oberstar (D-Minn.) the new ranking Democrat on the House Transportation Committee, announced Heymsfeld's appointment. Heymsfeld is Democratic staff director of the aviation subcommittee, for which he was worked since 1975.
MEDAIRE has redesigned its medical refresher training program to provide a variety of options for corporate flight crews. MedAire, which provides annual CPR and oxygen therapy courses, said the new program will allow flight crews to select additional training in areas such as altitude physiology, medical emergencies, traumatic emergencies, prevention of back injuries, fatigue and bloodborne pathogens. The expanded venue will be available beginning in January. MedAire, Phoenix, Ariz., is a privately held company partially owned by Samaritan Health System.
AIRSHOW and Jeppesen formed a strategic alliance to provide integrated information and communication products for corporate and commercial aircraft. The agreement calls for the integration of Jeppesen's electrical flight information services with Airshow's Genesys system, which provides uplink and display services of Doppler radar images into cockpits.
GULFSTREAM has hired away yet another executive from the business jet manufacturing community. The Savannah manufacturer appointed former Cessna employee Ernie Santiago regional sales manager for the Northwest U.S. and Western Canada. Santiago will be based in Long Beach, Calif. He formerly served with Cessna for 18 years, most recently regional sales manager for the West Coast.
WESTERN AIRCRAFT, INC., the fixed-base operation at the Boise, Idaho Airport, has named a new management team headed by Allen G. Hoyt. Hoyt, the new president of Western, also is one of the new owners of the company, which was formerly owned by Morrison Knudsen Corp. Hoyt spent 10 years at Western before leaving in 1992. Most recently he has been president and general manager of Satellite Aero, Western's sister company in Jackson, Wyo. He will continue to serve as president of Satellite.
AIRCRAFT TECHNICAL PUBLISHERS will offer a Beechjet 400/400A maintenance library on CD-ROM in November. The library, developed in a joint effort between ATP and Raytheon Aircraft, will include a number of publications for maintenance of Beechjet aircraft including the maintenance manual, illustrated parts catalog, selected wiring diagram manuals, FAA airworthiness directives, and applicable manufacturer service bulletins. The library uses ATP Navigator user interface software that is Windows- based.
