AERODYNAMICS INCORPORATED is celebrating its 40th anniversary at Oakland County, Mich. International Airport. ADI, a long-time Raytheon distributor, provides support for the line of Raytheon aircraft as well as aircraft and parts sales, international charter, flight management, aircraft refurbishment and ground support. ADI, which also provides completion services, is in the midst of completing a 24,000-square-foot expansion to its refurbishment center.
EMBRAER Model EMB-120 series airplanes (Docket No. 98-NM-233-AD; Amdt. 39-11253; AD 99-17-04) - requires replacement of the fairlead support assemblies of the aileron control cable located in the nacelle outboard fittings with new, improved assemblies; and replacement of certain attachment screws with new screws. This amendment also provides an option for performing repetitive inspections until accomplishment of the replacement. This amendment is prompted by reports of aileron cable wear due to chafing found between the aileron control cables and nylon grommets.
A group of corporate business aircraft operators in Georgia formed the Georgia Business Aviation Association to address state and local issues that affect the use of business aircraft. Brian Ross, aviation director for Coca-Cola Enterprises, Inc., is chairman and president of the new organization and Ralph W. Lloyd, a regional sales manager for Cessna Aircraft, is vice chairman. GBAA membership is open to corporations, small businesses and individuals.
TAC Air, the aviation division of Texas-based Truman Arnold Companies, signed a definitive agreement to acquire Signature Flight Support fixed-base operations at Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Windsor Locks, Conn. and at Centennial Airport (APA) in Englewood, Colo. Closing of the Bradley deal is anticipated by Sept. 30, but the APA transaction is not expected to close until early April after Signature moves its operations into a new facility now under construction on Centennial.
HAWAIIAN AIRLINES ordered 13 Boeing 717-200 regional jets powered by BMW Rolls-Royce BR715 turbofan engines and took options on seven more 717s. Deliveries are to begin in February 2001. Boeing also delivered the first 717-200 to launch customer AirTran Airways, the former ValuJet. Boeing now has orders for 115 717s and options for another 110.
BRITISH AEROSPACE Model BAe 146 and Model Avro 146-RJ series airplanes (Docket No. 97-NM-129-AD; Amdt. 39-11260; AD 99-17-12) - requires a one-time measurement to determine the thickness of the outer links of the side stays of the main landing gear (MLG), and corrective actions, if necessary. This amendment also provides for replacement of a thin outer link with a new or serviceable part in lieu of certain follow-on inspections. This amendment is prompted by issuance of mandatory continuing airworthiness information by a foreign civil airworthiness authority.
A JOINT AVIATION AUTHORITIES panel is expected to recommend next month that the European aviation authority adopt in toto its proposal to alter flight crew licensing requirements.JAA's Flight Crew Licensing Committee this month approved the proposal with little change and expects to ask the full JAA to adopt it at its meeting in October. The proposal won mixed reviews from the U.S. industry.
AAR CORP. appointed Vic Versino president and general manager of its AAR Distribution unit, which serves the commercial, regional, business and general aviation markets. Versino has 18 years of distribution experience with international logistics supplier Martin-Brower Company. Most recently, he was president, Latin America Distribution for Martin-Brower.
Federal Aviation Administration is considering adopting a goal of reducing by 20 percent the expected number of fatal general aviation accidents through 2007. This goal, called the "safety metric," was drafted in cooperation with industry after months of deliberation and could form the base target justifying future rulemaking.
Wary of efforts by the City of Burbank, Calif. to impose new airport restrictions at the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport, groups representing general aviation and the nation's airlines said they were ready to act to ensure the nation's noise policies are properly enforced. (BA, Aug. 16/76).

JACK GABER was appointed director of marketing and business development at Israel Aircraft Industries' International Arlington, Va. Office. Gaber will represent IAI's Bedek Aviation Group in the U.S. and Canada. He formerly was director of marketing and business development for Europe for the Bedek unit.
FAA, which considered developing its own "safety metric" for general aviation, now appears more likely to adopt the industry's goals for reducing the number of GA accidents over the next several years (BA, July 12/13). FAA recently met with industry officials on the safety metric and is reviewing a draft safety goal using a baseline of the number of accidents rather than accident rates.
GENERAL AVIATION MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION named Michael Schanck manager of safety affairs and operations. Schanck succeeds Kris Estes, who left the association last month to join Raytheon Aircraft. Schanck will oversee environmental issues, statistical research, and safety-related programs. Before joining GAMA, he flew as a Jetstream 4100 first officer for Atlantic Coast Airlines and served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force for 14 years. While with the U.S.

A majority of National Business Aviation Association members support regulation of fractional aircraft ownership providers under Part 135 of the FARs, but an even larger majority favors permitting traditional corporate flight departments to continue flying under Part 91 while operating under a variety of chargeback, interchange and joint ownership arrangements.
CASA Model CN-235 series airplanes (Docket No. 99-NM-117-AD) - proposes to supersede an existing AD that currently requires repetitive eddy current inspections to detect fatigue cracks in the nose landing gear (NLG) turning tube, and replacement of cracked tubes. This proposal would add a requirement for the replacement of the existing NLG turning tube constructed of aluminum alloy with a new NLG turning tube made of steel; such replacement would terminate the repetitive inspections.
BOMBARDIER Model CL-600-2B19 (Regional Jet Series 100) series airplanes (Docket No. 98-NM-385-AD) - proposes to require a one-time inspection to detect damage of the input connectors and wiring of the main and auxiliary power unit battery chargers, and corrective action, if necessary. It also would require installation of secure connectors for the battery charger input connections.

GE HARRIS AVIATION INFORMATION SOLUTIONS LLC, a joint company of General Electric, Harris Corp., and Comair, have signed an agreement to demonstrate a high-speed, wireless data communications link on two of Comair's regional jets. The system will demonstrate the GE Harris "Out, Off, On, In (OOOI) data link. The companies said OOOI will assist in the management and monitoring of airline flights. OOOI is designed to automatically receive real-time information on aircraft location at any given moment.
BOMBARDIER Model DHC-8-311 and -315 series airplanes (Docket No. 98-NM-324-AD) - proposes to supersede an existing AD that requires replacement of the nitrogen cylinder assemblies that inflate the airplane's ditching dams with improved nitrogen cylinder assemblies. This action would expand the applicability of the existing AD. This proposal is prompted by issuance of mandatory continuing airworthiness information by a foreign civil airworthiness authority.
