Emivest Aerospace Company continues to spool up its production as it prepares to hand over the first SJ30 light business jet since Emirates Investment Development Company (EIDC) of Dubai acquired the company last year. Debra Draheim, a captain on the CRJ-200/700/900, recently secured a single-pilot type rating for the SJ30 in preparation for her company – a privately-held venture in California – to take delivery of the aircraft this summer. The company will receive Serial Number 008, which this month was readied for first flight.

DORNIER 328-100 and -300 airplanes [Docket No. FAA-2009-0419; Directorate Identifier 2009-NM-050-AD; Amendment 39-15898; AD 2009-10-03] – Conduct a one-time inspection of all flight control trim and spring tab assemblies and their surrounding areas, and replace any parts that are cracked, per the instructions of 328 Support Services Service Bulletins SB-328-27-483 and SB-328J-27-233 (both dated Dec. 30, 2008).

EMBRAER ERJ 190 airplanes [Docket No. FAA-2009-0418; Directorate Identifier 2009-NM-020-AD] – This proposal would require operators to perform a detailed inspection of the flanges of the left and right wing rib and spars I, II, and III in accordance with the instructions of Embraer Service Bulletin 190-57-0023 (dated June 9, 2008). If any cracking or deformation is detected, repair the damage before further flight.

CORPORATEJETS XXI of Barcelona, Spain, will add a new long-range Falcon 2000LX to its fleet in October. The company says the decision to augment the current fleet of one Falcon 900C and two Cessna Citation XLS aircraft comes as its customer base is expanding, along with the requirements of its existing client base. “We also know that brokers find [the Falcon 2000LX] popular for mid- and long-range sectors due to its high comfort levels,” commercial director Jacint Pugimarti Mu said.

HAMILTON SUNDSTRAND T-62T-46C12 auxiliary power units (APUs) [Docket No. FAA-2009-0247; Directorate Identifier 2009-NE-07-AD] – This proposed directive would require operators to upgrade the software in the auxiliary power unit’s full-authority digital controller to version 03.00.000, per the instructions of Hamilton Sundstrand Power Systems Service Bulletin No. 4503067-49-12, Rev. 1 (dated Dec. 23, 2008).

Boeing Business Jets came to last week’s European Business Aviation Convention and Exposition with only two new customers signed in 2009. That’s two more than its rivals at Airbus Corporate Jets, but this advantage is erased by four cancellations. Boeing had secured orders for eight VIP jets since the 2008 EBACE, down from the 33 it had from a year prior (from the 2007 EBACE to 2008 EBACE).

Customer support at Pratt & Whitney Canada has been strengthened with the addition of two new recognized maintenance facilities in Germany and Switzerland to service PT6A, JT15D and PW300 engines. The additions are Aero-Dienst of Nuremberg, Germany, and Altenrhein Aviation at St. Gallen-Altenrhein Airport, Switzerland. The two will become part of the network of Pratt & Whitney Customer Service Center Europe GmbH, a joint venture between P&WC and MTU Aero Engines.

NATIONAL BUSINESS AVIATION ASSOCIATION President and CEO Ed Bolen last week was optimistic that the industry is beginning to make inroads with the Transportation Security Administration on its controversial Large Aircraft Security Program (LASP) proposal. TSA has held two meetings with industry leaders to discuss its concerns about the sweeping security proposal, in addition to holding a series of public hearings and receiving more than 7,000 comments on LASP (BA, May 11/219).

STANDARDAERO was named a support center for the Cessna Citation service network. Under an agreement between the two companies, StandardAero will provide support for the Pratt & Whitney Canada PW615F powering the Citation Mustang and the Rolls-Royce AE3007C/C1 on the Citation X. StandardAero has received U.S. FAA and European Aviation Safety Agency approvals for full PW615F hot-section repair at its facility in Tilburg, The Netherlands. StandardAero also provides overhaul and repair for the engine at its Maryville, Tenn.

AIRCELL won its largest SwiftBroadband order with a contract to equip the entire Jet Republic fleet. The contract covers 110 systems. Powered by Thrane & Thrane, the SwiftBroadband system will enable passengers to use Wi-Fi smartphones for e-mail in flight. System handsets also enable voice calls. Jet Republic, which has operational headquarters in Lisbon, Portugal, provides shared ownership and private jet card services using a Learjet 60 XR fleet. The first Aircell-equipped Jet Republic aircraft is scheduled to enter service in September.

Cockpits of Gulfstream, Dassault Falcon and certain Bombardier Challenger and Global Express business jets will soon be compatible with next generation airspace requirements in Europe and the U.S. due to an extensive avionics upgrade being developed by Honeywell Aerospace.

An FAA hearing examiner last week determined that a City of Santa Monica ordinance banning large aircraft from Santa Monica Airport violates the city’s airport grant assurance agreements. The 114-page FAA decision followed just days after the U.S. Ninth Circuit upheld a preliminary injunction against enforcement of the ordinance.

HONEYWELL engine and APU service will be provided in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia by Arabasco, the Arabian Aircraft Service Company. The deal with Honeywell authorizes work on TFE731-2 to -5 series engines and the GTCP36-6 series of APUs. “We are pleased to partner with Honeywell Aerospace in expanding the level of service in a thriving regional market,” said Arabasco CEO Mohammad Al Shablan. Arabasco is an FAA-approved repair station for Hawker 700/800, Gulfstream II and IV, Falcon 2000 and Boeing 727 and 737 aircraft.

SOCATA TBM 700 airplanes [Docket No. FAA-2006-26234; Directorate Identifier 2006-CE-064-AD] – This proposal, which would revise an existing directive (AD 2007-03-17), would require operators to inspect the rivets on Frames C18 BIS and C19, and, if necessary, take corrective actions in accordance with the instructions of either TBM Aircraft Mandatory Service Bulletin SB 70-129 (dated June 2005) or SB 70-129, Amendment 1 (dated February 2009).

ROCKWELL COLLINS has begun testing its new Pro Line Fusion integrated avionics system. Introduced in November 2007, the avionics have been selected for Bombardier, Embraer, Gulfstream and Mitsubishi aircraft. The avionics will include high-resolution, 15-inch LCD displays, synthetic and enhanced vision and MultiScan weather radar.

STANDARDAERO was appointed by Aviation Partners Inc. as an authorized installer for the new blended winglets on Falcon 2000 business jets. API recently secured both FAA and European supplemental type certification for the winglets, which are standard on the new Falcon 2000LX (BA, May 4/11). The winglets add up to 250 nautical miles in range, reduce emissions and enhance resale value.

CALIFORNIA’S AIRMARK INTERNATIONAL has been named a distributor of GKN Aerospace windshields and cabin windows for Learjet 30, 55 and 60 series jets via a joint venture with Sabreliner. Windows are available for outright purchase or Sabreliner installation either in Perryville, Mo., or at customer locations.

AERION CORPORATION says it is in “serious and detailed discussions” with an airframe original equipment manufacturer, but it has yet to find a partner to manufacture its $80 million, Mach 1.6, 4,000-nautical-mile range supersonic business jet. Potential partners are hunkered down, weathering record economic headwinds, executives say. But they added that Aerion is continuing development work, including evaluation of its supersonic NLF airfoil aboard a NASA Dryden F-15B Eagle and acoustical testing of various 7 percent scale engine nozzles.

EMBRAER CAE TRAINING SERVICES (ECTS) secured European Aviation Safety Agency approval for Phenom 100 technical training courses. The certification covers type, avionics and familiarization courses. ECTS will provide technical training at its facilities in Burgess Hill in the United Kingdom and in Dallas. ECTS was established in November 2007 as a joint venture between Embraer and CAE to provide pilot and ground crew training for the Phenom 100 and 300 jets.

ANDREW PEARCE was appointed sales and marketing director– United Kingdom/Europe for Rizon, a Middle East and London Biggin Hill-based charter company. Pearce has 30 years of aviation experience, formerly serving as senior manager of aircraft acquisitions and sales at TAG. His career began in flight operations and charter for Britannia Airways, and he also has served with McAlpine Aviation, Fortis Aviation Group, FLS Aerospace Engineering and Twinjet Aircraft.

ROLLS-ROYCE AE 3007A engines [Docket No. FAA-2008-0975; Directorate Identifier 2008-NE-29-AD; Amendment 39-15905; AD 2009-08-51] – This emergency AD, which supersedes an earlier directive (AD 2008-26-06), requires operators to perform an eddy current inspection or surface wave ultrasonic test inspection of certain high-pressure turbine wheels, per the instructions of either Rolls-Royce Corporation Alert Service Bulletin AE 3007A-A-72-367, Rev. 1 (dated April 7, 2009) or AE 3007A-72-368, Rev. 1 (dated April 6, 2009).

TERRY FREEMAN was promoted to manager, product support warranty for Gulfstream Aerospace, where he will manage aircraft production warranty administration for all Gulfstream service centers, General Dynamics Aviation Services facilities, third-party maintenance facilities and authorized warranty repair facilities. Freeman joined Gulfstream in 1985 as a cycle count auditor and has held positions of planner/buyer, senior buyer for spares purchasing, customer service representative and warranty specialist.

STANDARDAERO has appointed Aero Management Inc. as its representative for regional airlines and business aviation business in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The appointment covers StandardAero’s business jet airframe, interior and avionics services, as well as services for GE CF34, Rolls-Royce AE3007, Pratt & Whitney Canada PW100 and PT6 engines, and Honeywell auxiliary power units and TFE731 engines. Aero Management is headed by Valentine Sushko, who has held senior positions in Soviet Civil Aviation and the Interstate Aviation Committee.
