Airservices Australia and the contractor for The Australian Advanced Air Traffic System (TAAATS), Thomson Radar Australia Corp., have completed successfully the preliminary trials of the automatic dependent surveillance (ADS) component. The trials involved 17 747-400 aircraft from Qantas, Air New Zealand and United equipped with FANS 1 (Future Air Navigation System) avionics and operating regular services across the Pacific.

Ensure Co. Ltd. of Taiwan and Intaero Corp. of the U.S. have signed a letter of intent to cooperate in producing 16G aircraft cabin seats. Intaero will help Ensure develop a 16G cabin seat production system and provide quality assurance technology. Ensure, Taiwan's largest manufacturer of aluminum wheels for automobiles and motorcycles, will produce cabin parts and components for the American company. The 16G aircraft cabin seat, developed by Intaero, has received FAA certification.
After hectic rounds of talks with France and Japan, U.S. negotiators do not expect to be pressed into action for a couple of weeks. The next formal talks are scheduled April 27 with Singapore and April 29 with Brazil. The U.S. and Hungary are expected to hold informal discussions April 18-19 in Budapest.

Most of Australia's control zones (CTRs) will be reduced in size by 20% to 50% in June to comply with a Civil Aviation Safety Authority airspace design standard published last July, according to Adrian Dumsa, manager airspace and air routes, Air Traffic Services. "Those standards indicated our CTRs were too big and that we could provide the same level of protection to IFR in smaller CTRs," he said. The authority "nominated a minimum CTR of five or seven miles radius depending on the aircraft category and speed," he said.

TriStar Airlines added a third daily flight in the Los Angeles-San Francisco market yesterday. Any passenger who finds a lower comparable fare in the market after purchasing tickets on TriStar will receive a refund and another free ticket, the carrier said. TriStar operates BAe 146 jets.
Airborne Express introduced Friday a new service option, Airborne Global Post, which it said can save a customer with a four-ounce international mailing to 300 locations each month at least $3,000 a year on postage. Airborne said it will pick up pre-addressed, unsorted and unstamped mail, transfer it in bulk to a central distribution center, and provide transmit times one to two days faster than normal international mail service. This gives customers "better-than-standard first-class service," Airborne said.
Delta has begun incorporating a new worldwide corporate identity through new logotype intended to underscore traditional values of hospitality and service and accentuate modern professionalism and global presence. The new logotype, which retains the familiar triangular red, white and blue "widget," was revealed as Delta reopened its flagship Crown Room in Atlanta Hartsfield Airport following renovations.
Future military airspace proposals will be considered by Regional Airspace Committees, according to the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. The committees are the result of an Air National Guard proposal, since withdrawn, that would have expanded military special use airspace over five states, including one-third of Maine, AOPA says.
USAir's traffic fell 2.6% last month, compared with March 1995, on a 10% drop in capacity. The load factor increased 5.5 percentage points to 70.8%. "We continue to benefit from strong load factors and from decreased capacity on the East Coast," said Rakesh Gangwal, USAir's president and chief operating officer. "Looking forward, our bookings continue the strong trend we have seen over the last couple of months," he said. For the first quarter, USAir's traffic was 4.4% below the same period last year on 11.4% less capacity.

The U.S. arm of DHL Worldwide Express said Friday it has expanded its Same Day Service to include more international destinations "than any air express carrier," with "faster transit via supersonic Concorde aircraft" and a satellite broadcast service. DHL said it is offering door-to-door service to more than 65 countries and its door-to-airport service to more than 200 countries. The Concorde flights "cut the transit time for transatlantic flights in half, saving precious hours for extremely time- sensitive shipments," DHL said.
Receivers of bankrupt Fokker are investigating the feasibility of completing up to 18 more aircraft, prolonging aircraft production for another year or so. It was decided earlier that 15 aircraft in various stages of production would be completed. Fokker said the option is "seriously being contemplated as Fokker customers are pressing for delivery of outstanding orders. Some customers have indicated their intention to order more aircraft to complement their fleets. Even new customers have come forward."
