German charter carrier ACM Air Charter won its foreign air carrier permit from the U.S. Transportation Dept. and an exemption for flights between points in Germany, U.S. points and beyond, as well as charters between the U.S. and third countries for local Germany-U.S. traffic. Per its certificate, ACM must use aircraft capable of carrying no more than 60 passengers and able to carry a maximum 18,000 pounds; its fleet includes a Cessna Citation 650, two Citation 750s and a Challenger 604 [OST-2006-24190].

Brussels International Airport Co. reached a last-minute partial agreement with its unions and managed to avoid a strike that would have started last Friday and was scheduled to paralyze the airport. A first agreement on overtime "strongly reduced the risk of stoppage," said a union representative. It's expected to take three or four years to develop standards for the kind of command, control and communication avionics the FAA demands of unmanned aerial vehicles before the agency will consider loosening restrictions on unmanned flight, a top FAA official says.

Northwest's Air Line Pilot Association unit tomorrow plans to charter two of the carrier's DC-9s and fly a group of pilots to Washington to lobby for airline-specific pension reform. CEO Doug Steenland also will be in Washington to make a last-minute lobbying push. While the House-Senate conference committee continues debate, the latest buzz is that the members aren't leaning away from airline relief.

Stork unit Fokker Services is buying AIRINC from AeroMark Group. AIRINC supplies component repair and overhaul, and projects reaching $10 million in sales this year. The buy helps Fokker establish its first component repair facility in North America. AIRINC is based in Fairhope, Ala.
