US Airways will assume American Airlines’ name and relocate to the Fort Worth-based carrier’s headquarters, Aviation Week has confirmed. Most of the details of US Airways’ proposal to buy AMR are still unknown, and in its announcement Friday the Tempe, Ariz.-based airline was hesitant to provide any concrete information apart from assertions that it would reduce AMR’s proposed job cuts from 13,000 to 6,800 and that there will be unspecified “enhancements to the compensation and benefits currently” provided AMR workers.

Oneworld member LAN Airlines and Star Alliance’s Grupo TAM are not expected to announce their alliance choice until the fourth quarter at the earliest, say sources with knowledge of the situation. Chilean regulators have demanded that the newly created Latam Airlines Group align with just one alliance to gain final approval for the merger, but there appears to be no set deadline on when that decision should be made. The carriers have repeatedly stated that a decision will come after the formal merger, which is now delayed until the end of May at the earliest.

The share price of the 89-year-old parent company of Cessna Aircraft, Bell Helicopter and Textron Systems rose more than 50% during the first quarter of 2012. And while the stock has declined a bit in April, it has recovered from a slump that began a year ago, when it became apparent that a rebound in the lower end of the business jet market was further off than anticipated.

Saab is looking at further acquisitions in the air traffic management (ATM) sector to maintain the market position it built up with last year’s acquisition of Sensis, CEO Hakan Bushke says. With the ATM industry going through consolidation, Bushke says more deals would be necessary to maintain Sensis’s position. Saab is attracted to the sector because the pace of growth in ATM is stronger than in other segments where the company is active, such as defense.
