Med Atlantica is close to finalizing its takeover of Mexicana de Aviacion and has named its CEO Christian Cadenas as head of the bankrupt carrier. In this role, Cadenas must now finalize a capitalization plan to relaunch the airline and negotiate repayment terms with creditors, which a source close to the airline says may be spread over the next seven years.

Gogo, which currently provides inflight connectivity services with a system of ground-based transmitters, has partnered with satellite equipment provider AeroSat to develop a Ku-band product for commercial airlines beyond its current reach in North America. AeroSat will develop the Ku-satellite antenna, radome, antenna control and modem unit and high power transceiver for Gogo, which expects to be able to install the first system in the fourth quarter of 2012.

The rancor between United Airlines’ pilots and management has reached new highs with the carrier’s two Air Line Pilots Association chapters jointly pushing for strike action.
