Rolls-Royce is buying out the 50% stake that Goodrich Corp. holds in the Aero Engine Controls (AEC) joint venture. United Technologies Corp. (UTC), which is in the process of acquiring Goodrich, has approved the divestiture, but completion of the transfer of AEC shares still awaits the closing of UTC’s Goodrich acquisition and its own antitrust review.

Aerolineas Argentinas is overhauling its network and that of regional subsidiary Austral and creating point-to-point domestic “corridors” to generate more demand from domestic passengers. In an operating plan created in conjunction with Argentina’s Tourism Ministry, Aerolineas Argentinas says it will create “federal corridors” to serve cities within the country’s provinces without connecting through its operations at Buenos Aires’ two airports.
Indonesian startup Pacific Royale plans to launch its first flight today after receiving an air operator certificate from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, President Director Sumudra Sukardi tells Aviation Week. According to Sukardi, the airline will begin with domestic flights from Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, Indonesia’s second-largest city. This will be followed on June 15 with the launch of operations from a second hub at Hang Nadim Airport on Batam, an Indonesian island close to Singapore.

People Express might consider Boeing 737-300 aircraft for its fleet after initially basing its launch plan on variants developed after the -300’s 1984 entry into service. The U.S. Transportation Department (DOT), which is processing the carrier’s air operator certification, notes that People Express “indicates” it is planning to add 737-300s to its fleet in a revised application submitted to the FAA.
Tight financing and big backlogs for Airbus A320NEO and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft are creating alarm in the engine leasing market, and Jon Sharp, president and CEO of Engine Lease Finance Corp. (ELFC), says his company is recording a higher-than-usual level of returns. “We have more and more engines on the ground, and I think competitors are in the same position,” says ELFC’s top executive.
Airbus is ahead of its 2011 pace for deliveries and gross order intake with the addition of 37 A320-family deals in May. The company has booked 132 net orders through May, compared with 97 for the same period a year ago. The new orders include 36 A320NEO aircraft for Air Lease Corp. and a single current model A320 from leasing company BOC Aviation.

The National Mediation Board (NMB) has authorized a union election for passenger service representatives at AMR Corp.’s American Airlines division despite a pending court action brought by the airline seeking to block the election.
