And these currency fluctuations could impede Asian airlines’ ability to finance additional purchases of new aircraft, warns an Aug. 14 analysis by Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

LONDON — Reduced activity in the oil and gas industry caused by a fall in energy prices is continuing to weigh heavily on helicopter operators that support energy companies. International operators such as Bristow Group and CHC have cut flying rates and laid off pilots as their clients halt exploration work and reduce the numbers of people required to work offshore.
The carriers did not provide details of the proposed strategic partnership and said the “final model of cooperation has not been decided yet, however both airlines agreed to proceed toward future joint-venture cooperation.”
Pilots have reported seeing unmanned aircraft more than 650 times so far this year, the FAA says, a dramatic increase over the 238 sightings reported in all of 2014.
The airline plans to use a Boeing 777-200LR on the route. Scheduled flight time is 17 hr. 35 min. westbound. Emirates said it can fly the aircraft with a full passenger cabin of 266 seats in a three-class configuration and carry 15 tons of cargo.
According to analysis by Malaysia Airports, “there has been no occasion where flight operations were disrupted due to [pavement and stabilization] works” near the KLIA2 terminal from which AirAsia operates.
Some other major Asian carriers have also seen cargo yields and load factors drop in the second quarter, a worrying sign in a region where cargo is a relatively large part of airline operations.
LONDON—Rolls-Royce says it is positioning itself for long-term growth despite drops in revenue and profit in the first six months of 2015. Company revenues fell by 3% to £6.3 billion ($9.8 billion) compared to the first half of 2014, the company told investors on a recent earnings call, and underlying profits were down by more than 32% to £439 million, compared to £636 million a year ago.
As the airline works to build up its Canadian hubs with international traffic, Air Canada’s overall capacity grew 9.3%—largely stemming from increased seat density on flights operated by two-year-old LCC Air Canada Rouge and the addition of Boeing 787s into the mainline fleet.
