The U.S. Transportation Department (DOT) is fining Qatar Airways $185,000 for flying in prohibited foreign airspace with the American Airlines code. The DOT did not specify where the Qatar flights were when they violated FAA restrictions on flying in prohibited airspace. The flights occurred in late 2014 and early 2015.
Mexican ULCC Volaris has received approval from Costa Rica’s aviation authority to set up an airline there. Volaris Costa Rica plans to start operations on Dec. 1, Volaris CEO Enrique Beltranena said in a Nov. 10 statement. “This news means a lot to us at Volaris, because it represents the opportunity to grow and expand to other markets, being able to connect Central America,” he said.
