U.S. Air Force crash investigators probing the loss of a two-seat F-15 in England last year have found the accident was prompted by imperfections in the nose cone of the aircraft. Post-crash analysis of the nose cone of the Lakenheath, U.K.-based F-15D that crashed onto farmers’ fields outside the town of Spalding, Lincolnshire, on Oct. 8 revealed a large gap between the radome and the nose cap, and that excessive amounts of sealant to close that gap had “extruded behind the nose-cap creating an uneven aerodynamic surface.”
