The U.S. Air Force has nominated five leading defense firms capable of developing the first U.S. war-ready air-to-surface hypersonic strike missile.

EUROSAM, ASELSAN and ROKETSAN signed agreement to study Turkish long-range air and missile defense system to be launched in coming months. L3 TECHNOLOGIES has AIRBUS HELICOPTERS contract for 37 MX-15 electro-optical and infrared imaging systems for multiple H225M Caracal helicopter fleets.

As Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) undergoes treatment for brain cancer, his absence from the chamber could affect the timing of passage for the bill that tackles defense policy, including securing additional funding for the Pentagon. While plenty of others in Congress support McCain’s call for higher defense spending, defense analyst Byron Callan of Capital Alpha Partners says he doesn’t see another individual with the former prisoner of war’s stature or reputation.
