The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) has made available a free 32-page notice of flight procedures for pilots flying their aircraft to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2024, which takes place July 22-28 at Wittman Regional Airport (OSH) in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

In effect from noon CDT on Thursday, July 18, until noon CDT on Monday, July 29, the Oshkosh Notice outlines all arrival/departure procedures, radio frequencies, airport details and other important information. Pilots can download a digital version of the Notice at EAA.org/NOTAM.

Changes in the 2024 Notice include:

  • A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) will be in effect in Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE) airspace on July 15-18.
  • There is a new Fisk holding procedure.
  • No FISK arrivals before 8 a.m. CDT on Thursday, July 25.

The ATC-assignable transition points approaching Oshkosh from the west to ease holding and congestion will again be in effect in 2024. These points are at Endeavor Bridge, Puckaway Lake and Green Lake. They will be announced on the arrival ATIS when ATC activates them at times of highest traffic flows.

Pilots flying into Oshkosh can text OSHARRIVAL to 1-855-485-5674 to sign up for updates on the current status of AirVenture arrivals.

“The most essential information for any pilot flying to Oshkosh involves reading and thoroughly understanding the 2024 AirVenture Notice to ensure safe operations on arrival and departure,” says Sean Elliott, EAA vice president of advocacy and safety. “This FAA Notice document states the official requirements and expectations for pilots. We also urge all pilots to log appropriate cross-country time prior to their trip to Oshkosh so they have the proficiency and confidence to fly safely.”

The EAA advises that pilots who plan to arrive early at AirVenture could be affected by FAA airspace restrictions over and around Milwaukee during the Republican National Convention (RNC) being held there from July 14-18.

The 30-mile radius of the TFR affects multiple outlying airports in the Milwaukee area, including the Racine, Kenosha, Waukesha, West Bend and Hartford airports, some of which are popular “last-stop” locations for pilots flying to Oshkosh.

Inbound gateway screening for aircraft that require it within the TFR will take place at Madison (MSN) Dane County Regional Airport and Grand Rapids Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR).

The RNC TFR includes:

  • A surface-to-3,000 ft. AGL restriction for a three-mile radius from downtown Milwaukee. That will be in effect from 8 a.m. until 1:59 p.m. CDT on July 15-18.
  • Surface-to-17,999 ft. MSL restrictions for 10- and 30-mi. radius from downtown Milwaukee from 2-11 p.m. on July 15-18. The 10-mi. radius will be a complete no-fly zone; the 30-mi. radius will have some gateway provisions included in the posted TFR. Flying within the 10-to-30 mi. section of the TFR requires “talking and squawking” with Milwaukee ATC.

Operations that are prohibited within the TFR include flight training, flying uncrewed aircraft systems, ultralight flights and practice instrument approaches. The FAA has posted a flight advisory at https://www.faasafety.gov/SPANS/noticeView.aspx?nid=13674
