Marketplace: Landing Gear Shops Offer Many Services

MRO facilities report steady work on repair and overhaul of landing gear for a variety of business aviation aircraft, including those listed below. 

Purpose-Built Landing Gear Shop
Safran Landing Systems’ newest, state-of-the-art, purpose-built landing gear facility has opened in Molsheim, France. The facility’s design optimizes work flow and incorporates multiple environmental and digital initiatives. 
 
The capabilities Safran offers cover a range of business jets, including Dassault Falcon, Embraer and Bombardier Challenger and Global Express types, as well as the twin-turboprop Piaggio P180. Landing gear capability for the Dassault Falcon 6X, projected to enter service in 2022, is in development.

Safran has dedicated landing gear shops at eight facilities worldwide. The capabilities at each location include non-destructive testing, grinding, machining, stripping and plating, with limited outsourcing to ensure full turn-around time and cost control. A rotable exchange pool is also available world-wide.

Landing Gear Overhauls Increase

Duncan Aviation reports near-capacity activity in the five years since it expanded the landing gear shop at its Lincoln, Nebraska, location in 2016. During that time, the average annual number of gear sets the MRO completed more than doubled to 77, with 100 forecasted by the end of 2021.

Duncan Aviation offers complete landing gear restoration and overhauls at Lincoln, as well as its Battle Creek, Michigan, and Provo, Utah, facilities, with the largest of the landing gear shops at Lincoln.

Landing gear service is offered on business jets and turboprops including all models of Cessna, Beechcraft King Air and Bombardier Challenger and Global jets, along with the Embraer Legacy 600 and 650 models and all Learjet products except the Learjet 45.

A Decade Of Landing Gear Service

Since 2011, Elliott Aviation has provided complete landing gear overhaul, inspection and repair services, specializing in all Beechcraft King Air and Beechjet models, in addition to all Cessna Citation jets.

Certified to ASNT NDT (non-destructive testing) Level III, the company’s capabilities include off-site and on-site inspection techniques, such as eddy current, ultrasonic thickness and flaw detection, fluorescent penetrant and magnetic particle horizontal wet inspections.  

Elliott Aviation performs landing gear work at its 200,000 sq-ft. headquarters in Moline, Illinois, which is an FAA- and EASA-certified repair station. The MRO, which is also ISO 9001.2015 and AS9100D certified, provides inspections and repairs on numerous aircraft parts and accessories.

King Air Landing Gear

Stevens Aerospace and Defense Systems offers a full range of Beechcraft King Air landing gear inspection and repair services in-house, with shop space and teams at its four locations in Nashville, Tennessee; Macon, Georgia; Greenville, South Carolina and Dayton, Ohio.

 Each facility is equipped to handle landing gear removal and replacement, and is capable of shipping when tasks are handled externally. Learjet, Cessna Citation, Beechjet and Embraer Phenom landing gear work is performed in conjunction with other vendors.  

Stevens Aerospace has added a set of ground-only transport gear to enable Phenoms to be moved within the hangar as well as to on-site paint hangars, while the landing gear is removed for inspection and overhaul.
