Signature Aviation began construction June 13 on a fixed-base operator (FBO) facility at Huntsville International Airport (HSV) in Alabama.

The $11.3 million facility will meet the “evolving needs” of its customer base and act as a gateway to Huntsville’s prominent aerospace industry, Signature officials say. Signature’s new facility will add to its large network of more than 200 FBOs around the world.

“Huntsville is a key hub for aerospace, defense and information technology industries and in essence serves as a major destination for many of our existing customers because of that,” Kevin Stanley, Signature Flight marketing operations manager, told The Weekly of Business Aviation. “We also just entered into a new 20-year lease with the Port of Huntsville, which make the upgrades a priority.”

According to Stanley, construction of the new FBO will take nearly a year to complete. As part of the construction, Signature will also begin a ramp expansion to accommodate a larger range of aircraft with wider main ramp space.

The FBO will include a specially designed terminal, lounges, private meeting rooms and concierge service.

“The first and last impressions that visiting corporate leadership will have of our community will be the air terminal they taxi up to when visiting Huntsville,” says Trey Bentley, Port of Huntsville board chair. “As a private pilot and business owner, I understand the importance of these impressions, and at HSV, we have a first-class corporate aviation operation. This will be reflected in modern, attractive improvements to the Signature terminal.”
