The U.S. Air Force F-18EX is a further development of the F-15QA that Boeing sold to Qatar's air force, incorporating the same digital fly-by-wire flight control system, a stronger wing and 20,000-hr. design service life. In a clean configuration, it can reach Mach 2.5 but is limited to Mach 2 with external stores.

The F-15EX is designed for the air-to-ground mission. Its two GE Aerospace F-110-GE-129 engines with afterburners can produce a top posted speed of 1,875 mph.

A Lockheed Martin F-35 from the Wisconsin Air National Guard is on display at AirVenture 2024. With a wingspan of 35 ft. and posted speed of Mach 1.6, the Lightning II is a stealthy fifth-generation, multi-role fighter.

Its Pratt & Whitney F135-100 turbofan engine can propel the Lockheed Martin F-35A to Mach 1.6 and offers a maximum takeoff weight of 70,000 lb.

The Heritage Flight on AirVenture 2024's second day featured a World War II-era P-51 Mustang, a Cold War veteran Fairchild Republic A-10 Warthog and two current Lockheed Martin stealth fighters, the F-35 and F-22.

The U.S. Navy brought one of its 10 T-38s for display on Boeing Plaza at AirVenture 2024. This aircraft is assigned to the Naval Test Pilots School. The school uses the small fleet to train students in a variety of roles, including aircraft handling and flight characteristics, transonic performance and system integration.

Air Force pilots traditionally have trained in the Northrop T-38 (left) before moving on to other aircraft, such as the Lockheed Martin C-130H. Both were on display at AirVenture 2024 in Oshkosh.

The Boeing X-40 test vehicle is an unpowered test vehicle used in developing the Boeing Phantom Works X-37 spaceplane that is operated by the U.S. Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office.
