Jupiter and its moon Europa

Distant Jupiter, captured in this 2020 Hubble Space Telescope image, is the parent planet to 95 known moons, including Europa, which appears to have the necessary chemistry and environments to support life. It is a stretch of the imagination to ponder what might exist in the deep, dark saltwater ocean beneath the moon’s thick icy shell, but the tools to assess Europa’s habitability are mounted on NASA’s Europa Clipper spacecraft, which is being prepared for launch in October.
