UAS Detection, Mitigation Part Of Short-Term FAA Bill

The short-term congressional bill extending FAA funding to the end of September 2017 directs the agency to continue opening U.S. airspace to unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). The legislation also directs the agency to quantify and mitigate potential hazards posed by UAS in airspace around airports.

DHS Wants Air Marshals On Cuba Flights

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson wants to have agreements in place with the Cuban government to allow U.S. federal air marshals (FAM) to travel on flights into the U.S. from 10 Cuban airports, preferably before services start this fall.

Air France-KLM Expands JV With China Eastern Airlines

KLM has joined the joint venture (JV) between Air France and China Eastern Airlines, and has added its KL code to the Chinese airline’s recently launched, four-times-weekly service between Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS).

25 Years Ago July 19, 1991—Pan Am and Delta Air Lines explore allowing bankrupt Pan Am to survive as a standalone entity. This follows Pan Am’s refusal to sell its Latin American routes to United Airlines for $200 million. Delta plans to buy Pan Am’s European routes, its Northeast U.S. shuttle and 45 aircraft for $260 million.
