After opting not to park widebody aircraft during the COVID-19 pandemic, United Airlines will have 30 incremental twin aisle jets in the summer of 2022 compared to 2019, which the airline believes will allow for robust growth prospects, depending on market conditions.

A fleet of grounded Boeing 777s widebodies at United Airlines is creating cost challenges for the airline in the 2021 third quarter while also prompting problems with gauge in the U.S. domestic market.

The long-awaited loosening of restrictions is welcome news for the country’s aviation sector, but with it coming after the typical summer peak it is unclear how pent-up demand will manifest.
