He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Swiss International Air Lines failed to reach cost-cutting deals with its unions by yesterday's self-imposed deadline, complicating the carrier's restructuring efforts and posing another problem in its talks with Lufthansa.
Lufthansa denied Monday that it has made a firm offer for troubled Swiss International Air Lines. "There is definitely no offer," a company spokesman said, after the Swiss press on Sunday reported a deal was in the works, citing industry sources, though neither Lufthansa nor Swiss would comment on the status of behind-the-scenes talks on a possible cooperation deal (DAILY, July 14, July 1). Swiss shares rose as much as 16% on the report, and were up 10% in early afternoon trading.
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is closer to a deal with Air France than with rival British Airways. "The door for BA is still open. But we have said that our talks with Air France are more intense than with BA," spokesman Bart Koster said Monday. Still, he denied KLM already decided in favor of Air France.
