He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Austrian plans to transfer four Fokker 70 jets to its regional subsidiary Austrian Arrows next year because of an unresolved conflict with its own pilots over cost cuts.
BMI British Midland reported 21% traffic growth for the group in September, carried mainly by the success of its low-fare division, BMIbaby. The low-fare subsidiary "experienced strong growth across the network," the airline stated without releasing detailed figures for its two business units. BMI said, however, that traffic on its two transatlantic routes from Manchester to Washington and Chicago was unchanged.
EasyJet, Europe's largest low-fare airline, carried 19% more passengers in September than in the year-ago month, the airline said this week. The carrier said load factor improved 1.2 points to 85.9%, and it carried 1.89 million passengers, compared with Ryanair's 2.02 million, the equivalent of a 49% jump in passengers.
