He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Emirates wants Boeing's planned 7E7 Dreamliner to be significantly bigger than currently anticipated. Chairman Maurice Flanagan was quoted as saying that Emirates wanted the aircraft to seat more than 300 passengers, instead of 250, and have a range of 8,000 nautical miles. Also, Flanagan wants the 7E7 to be able to take off at full payload at outside temperatures of 115 degrees Fahrenheit, typical for summertime in Dubai. -JF
Austrian Arrows pilots will be allowed to fly jets with as many as 110 seats under a new agreement the Austrian Airlines Group reached with its pilots union to cut staff costs and avoid layoffs. In the long-debated deal reached over the weekend and first disclosed on Monday, the group aims to cut pilot costs to better position itself against low-fare competitors and adapt the cost base to the permanent lower-yield environment.
British Airways continued scheduled flights to Istanbul yesterday despite two deadly bomb blasts in the city aimed at British targets. BA delayed its morning service to the Turkish city by about 30 minutes to assess security, but traffic returned to normal during the day.
