He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.

Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.

Russian carrier Aeroflot and the SkyTeam alliance have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the airline to join the alliance. Air France and Aeroflot said the Russian airline will "most probably" join in 2005. SkyTeam rival Star Alliance intensively lobbied Aeroflot to join its ranks and will now have to look at other ways to get a foothold in Russia's growing air transport market.

Thomas Cook AG, the German tourism giant half-owned by Lufthansa, is looking at shifting part of its long-haul fleet to Cologne/Bonn Airport, industry sources say. The group's German airline, which will be renamed Condor this week, will base two Boeing 767s at the airport, starting with the summer 2005 timetable, if the plans are implemented. The move would be a blow to airports in Munich and Frankfurt, where the fleet is currently based.
