He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Air France is issuing a EUR450 million convertible bond due in 2020, the Air France-KLM group's French division said yesterday, and the funds will be used to finance new aircraft and investment in buildings.
Backed by continued strong growth in the Asian network, Lufthansa's overall traffic was up 3.1% in March, the airline said this week. Traffic within Europe fell by 2.9%, however, and demand to the Americas was down by 0.2%. The airline's load factor decreased 0.9 points to 74.4%.
Latvian national carrier Air Baltic recorded a LVL850,000 (US$1.6 million) loss in 2004 as the airline dealt with strong growth and fleet renewal efforts. The airline's revenues grew by 54% to LVL51.6 million (US$95.4 million), and passenger numbers increased 75% to 590,000. Last year, the airline started flying from neighboring Lithuania. Air Baltic is 47.2% owned by the SAS Group, while the Latvian government holds the rest. -JF
