He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
A British court forced British Airways to allow a female co-pilot a part-time job in a ruling published Friday. The co-pilot is currently working at 75% and has been trying to reduce to 50%. The airline has denied her request, officially for safety reasons. "British Airways believes that its pilots should have at least 2,000 flying hours' experience -- approximately three years of full time flying -- before it is acceptable for them to work at 50% levels," the airline said in a statement.
Low-cost carrier Germanwings its expanding its Stuttgart base with a three-times-weekly flight to Split, Croatia. The airline will introduce the service on July 14 with fares starting at EUR19. Split will be the 18th destination served from Stuttgart. Germanwings has additional bases in Cologne/Bonn and Berlin-Schoenefeld. The airline operates 20 Airbus A319s. Through its parent, Eurowings, Lufthansa holds a 49% stake in Germanwings. -JF
