In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.

Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.

In an effort to counter the aggressive growth of low-fare airlines, Lufthansa yesterday announced a major expansion at Hamburg, one of Germany's most powerful economic centers. The airline will base four additional Boeing 737s at the airport and introduce a total of six new routes on Oct. 15. Capacity will increase by 40%.

A Tuninter ATR-72 crashed off the Italian coast on Saturday, killing up to 16 people on board. According to initial reports, both engines failed on the flight from Bari to Djerba, a popular holiday island off the Tunisian coast. The crew declared an emergency and planned to land at Palermo Airport but decided to ditch the aircraft about 10 miles off the Sicily coast. A total of 34 people appear to have been on board.
