Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.

Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.

Lufthansa and pilots union Vereinigung Cockpit yesterday agreed on a new pay deal that will become effective July 1 and will mean added cost for the carrier. Under the deal, pay will increase 2.5% in July and another 1.5% in March 2007. The agreement covers an 18-month period and will cause additional costs of EUR25 million, the airline said.

Japan Airlines will join the Oneworld alliance in early 2007, the group said on the sidelines of the IATA Annual General Assembly in Paris. The eight existing oneworld carriers signed a letter of invitation to JAL on Sunday, a move that comes six months after JAL said it wanted to join the group (DAILY, Oct. 26, 2005). JALways, Japan Asia Airways, JAL Express, J-Air and Japan Transocean Air will join the alliance as associate members.

Aviation industry leaders expressed concerns over airlines' future financial results at the Paris IATA annual general meeting, as indications grow that some markets are no longer absorbing price increases. "For each of the last three years, revenues rose 10%," IATA CEO Giovanni Bisignani said in his state-of-the-industry address. "That is double the historical average. But a weaker global economy could change this dramatically."
