He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.

Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.

Airbus expects to sell 20 A380s this year, says John Leahy, the airframer's chief operating officer for customers. Leahy adds the aircraft will likely be placed with two customers. It isn't clear whether those will be new ones or repeat orders, like the two A380 orders booked last year. Repeat orders are seen as more likely. Thai Airways has already said it could increase its A380 order, doubling it from six aircraft to 12. It would make that move, in part, in settling compensation claims for receiving its A380s late.

Kuwaiti low-fare carrier Jazeera Airways plans to add more bases in the Persian Gulf region, as the airline broadens its network. Jazeera this week announced that it will introduce services from Dubai Airport to Manama, Bahrain; Mumbai, Delhi and Kochi, India, as well as to Muscat and Salalah, by the end of March. Jazeera will compete with several other carriers on the routes, among them Emirates and Gulf Air.

Ryanair's shares gained more than 6.4% yesterday, after the airline raised its full-year earnings outlook and reported much better-than-expected figures for the third quarter ended Dec. 31.
