He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.

Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.

Spanish low-fare airline Vueling yesterday issued a second profit warning for its current fiscal year, sending its stock into a 12% dive. The airline warned it could post a full-year loss before interest, tax amortization, depreciation and rent. In a worst-case scenario, the loss could total EUR10 million (US$14.16 million), Vueling said. The airline is facing increased competition from Ryanair and EasyJet in the Spanish market. Lufthansa is adding routes more quickly than expected to its Duesseldorf base. The airline will launch services to six additional European destinations in summer 2008, among them Usedom, Newquay and Jersey.

IATA yesterday reported the strongest growth in both passenger and cargo traffic for the past 16 months. Passenger traffic was up 8.6% in August and cargo demand rose by 6%. Passenger load factor was at 80.3%, 0.9 points higher than last year.
