He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Former Airbus CEO Gustav Humbert admits that “with today’s knowledge, we would have done things much differently in the A380 program.” Humbert said at the Emirates first A380 delivery event in Hamburg that “we mismanaged production ramp-up.”
MTU Aero Engines said its profit for the first six months of the year rose from EUR27 million to EUR36.2 million (US$57.6 million). Sales rose by 1% to EUR626 million. “We have hardly been affected by the current adjustments to airline capacities, and the record volume of orders for new aircraft is helping to sustain our engine order backlog at a consistently high level,” CEO Egon Behle said.
Emirates yesterday took delivery of the first of 58 Airbus A380s. The airline accepted the aircraft at a ceremony in Hamburg. The aircraft was the first to be delivered from Airbus’ main German sites with the five previous jets for Singapore Airlines having been handed over in Toulouse.
