He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Avic Aircraft has swooped down on Austrian aerospace manufacturer FACC in the first case of a Chinese manufacturer buying a first-tier Western supplier to Airbus and Boeing. The purchase of the company, with its extensive composites expertise, may strengthen the technology base of the Comac C919 narrowbody airliner, for which Avic Aircraft will be a major supplier, although FACC says it will protect its intellectual property.
Jet Airways CEO Wolfgang Prock-Schauer has resigned and will be joining British Midland PLC (BMI) as its CEO, based in the U.K. Prock-Schauer has been with Jet Airways since June 2003.
Embraer is considering setting up a final assembly line for its Embraer 170/190 family in China, Executive VP-Airline Market Mauro Kern said. A decision to go ahead with such a project would come within the next year. “In about six months, we will have a clearer view of what we will do,” Kern told The DAILY at the European Regions Airline Association’s annual meeting in Interlaken, Switzerland.
