He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.

Spanish low-fare airline Vueling is in the middle of a strategic review to determine its evolution. The review is far-reaching, exploring “any mode of growth” in the next years in an effort to regain momentum and become established as one of the big players in the low-fare airline sector.
Xi’an Aircraft Industry Company (XAC) has completed the takeover of Austrian composite component specialist FACC. The deal was first announced in October, and both parties said at the time they expected to close it before the end of the year. FACC hopes it will have much improved access to China’s growing aerospace market, while XAC plans to use the Austrian firm’s know-how in composites in future programs.
The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is encouraging European airlines to allow car child seats onboard their aircraft. The agency is publishing a list of seats that are now permitted by Germany’s airline association BDF. The list (www.easa.europa.eu/ws_prod/g/flying-with-small-children.php) provides details of which specific models fit into aircraft seats.
