He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
TAM Airlines is reinforcing its growth strategy with an expanded network and a bigger fleet, hoping to take advantage of its recent admission to the Star Alliance.
Lufthansa will name Deputy CEO Christoph Franz the company’s CEO at the next meeting of the board of directors, scheduled on Sept. 22, industry sources tell The DAILY. While no formal decision has been made, no alternatives are being discussed, the sources say. The board will also appoint Carsten Spohr CEO of the airline division and a group executive board member.
Jim McNerney, Boeing’s chairman and CEO, believes the company will take over market leadership from Airbus within the next one to two years, based on the number of deliveries. As deliveries for the 787 ramp up, “we will have a dominant share in the widebody segment, and we will be even on the narrowbody side,” he told reporters at a roundtable meeting at the Farnborough International Airshow. He pointed out that “market share is important, although it’s not the most important thing.”
