He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Ulrich Ogiermann yesterday stepped down as CEO of Cargolux following a meeting of the board. The decision was caused by his “indictment by a U.S. court for alleged antitrust violations,” Cargolux said in a statement. “The preparation of Mr. Ogiermann’s legal defense will absorb time and energy and is not reconcilable with an effective day-to-day management of the company under trading conditions that will be challenging.”
Japanese domestic airline Skymark is about to place an order for up to six Airbus A380s. The deal is understood to be composed of a firm order for four aircraft and options for two more. While further details were not immediately available, Airbus confirmed that it is in final negotiations with the airline. Industry sources say a memorandum of understanding could be signed in the coming days.
Kuwait-based low-fare carrier Jazeera Airways returned to profitability in the third quarter after having started a turn-around plan and integrated Sahaab Aircraft Leasing. The group made a net profit of KD4.4 million on KD14 million in sales. The airline carried 365,000 passengers in the period, reaching a 70% load factor. Its share of the Kuwait market was 40%, Jazeera claims. The airline was struggling financially earlier this year and decided to cut almost half of its previous fleet of 11 Airbus A320s.
