He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Etihad Crystal Cargo has extended a wet-lease agreement with World Airways covering two MD-11Fs. The aircraft are used on routes from Abu Dhabi to Africa, Asia and Europe, the carrier says. The two MD-11Fs have been in service at Etihad Crystal Cargo for the past four years. The airline operates its own two A300-600Fs, two A330Fs and one Boeing 777F.
Air France-KLM last week made changes to its holding structure. Pierre-Henri Gourgeon will focus on his job as the group's CEO and no longer deal with the day-to-day running of Air France. The holding company will also take on additional responsibilities such as alliances, purchasing and financial management. Air France-KLM says the changes are aimed at enabling more airlines to be added to the group.
German airship manufacturer Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik says it has made a breakthrough as the leading company in its field, following a major order by the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. However, it concedes that, overall, zeppelin use remains flat. Goodyear recently decided to replace its three U.S.-based aging blimps with three zeppelins. The airships, to be stationed in Akron, Ohio; Miami and Los Angeles, will take on the advertising roles performed by their predecessors.
