He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
EADS subsidiary Premium Aerotec officially opened a new site in Romania on Tuesday. The Ghimbav plant is producing metal parts for the Airbus A320, A330 and A380 programs. Part of the 60,000-sq.-meter facility became operational last year. Production will be ramped up until the end of 2012. Premium Aerotec plans to employ around 500 staff in Ghimbav. It also operates plants in Augsburg, Nordenham and Varel, Germany.
Etihad Airways is still deeply in the red, but claims it can still break even this year and make a profit in 2012. The airline posted a positive EBITDAR (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, amortization and rentals) in the first half of this year, which is the first positive posting since the airline launched operations. “The results mark continued progress towards the airline’s goal of breaking even this year and moving into sustainable profitability in 2012,” Etihad said in a statement.
Etihad Crystal Cargo has extended a wet-lease agreement with World Airways covering two MD-11Fs. The aircraft are used on routes from Abu Dhabi to Africa, Asia and Europe, the carrier says. The two MD-11Fs have been in service at Etihad Crystal Cargo for the past four years. The airline operates its own two A300-600Fs, two A330Fs and one Boeing 777F.
