He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Mexican low-fare airline Volaris yesterday signed a firm order for 44 Airbus A320s, 30 of which will be A320NEOs. Volaris currently has a fleet of 34 aircraft and has 58 more on order, including the most recent deal. It has not yet selected an engine, but says it will make that decision later. Airbus claims the order is the largest single commitment by a Mexican airline so far. Volaris started operations in 2006.
SkyTeam is launching the Skypriority initiative, a series of airport services to be applied alliance-wide. The program is based on Delta’s Skypriority services. The program includes priority check-in, baggage drop-off, service at airport ticket offices, transfer desks, security lines (where possible), boarding and baggage handling. Boarding passes for Elite Plus, First- and Business-Class passengers will also be branded accordingly.
