He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Royal Jordanian Airlines is cutting its route network in an effort to reduce mounting losses. The airline will stop flying to Al-Ain in the United Arab Emirates, Munich and Brussels, as well as to two additional points in the Persian Gulf region to be announced. The carrier also will reduce frequencies on routes from Amman, Jordan, to Colombo, Sri Lanka; and Khartoum, Sudan; as well as to Rome, Vienna, Zurich, Geneva and Amsterdam. Depending on advance bookings, there may be even more cuts later this year.
The “Arab spring” revolutions will have “a tremendously positive effect” on air travel in the region eventually, says an officer of the Arab Air Carrier Organization (AACO). Secretary General Abdul Wahhab Teffaha told delegates at Aviation Week’s MRO Middle East conference last week that he expects the transformation from totalitarian regimes to democracies to be “difficult.”
