He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
South Africa’s government, which is playing an increasingly vocal role in South African Airways’ (SAA’s) operations, would consider a new venture in Ghana. Public Enterprise Minister Malusi Gigaba is publicly advocating an expansion plan that would open affiliates in East and West Africa to reduce SAA’s reliance on long-haul revenues. Ghana is one of the fastest-growing economies in Africa.
RAK Airways plans to add two more Airbus A320s to its fleet in 2013 to increase the size of its network and boost frequencies to existing destinations. Based in Ras Al Khaimah, one of the United Arab Emirates, the carrier plans to fly to Dammam, Saudi Arabia, early next year. It also wants to operate more flights to India, particularly to Cochin and Trivandrum, RAK CEO John Brayford said at the World Routes conference in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
