He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
International Airlines Group (IAG) CEO Willie Walsh says it is highly likely his company will place an order for the proposed Boeing 777X. “Based on what I have seen, it is almost inevitable that it is an aircraft that we will have in our fleet at some stage,” Walsh told Aviation Week during a March 18 interview. “It looks like a perfect fit for some of what British Airways [BA] would require.”
Airbus could buy Spirit Aerosystems facility in Saint Nazaire, France, to gain better control of the Airbus A350 supply chain, company sources tells Aviation Week.
Turkish Airlines has placed an order for up to 117 Airbus narrowbodies to support its ambitious growth plans. Under the agreement unveiled March 15, the airline has signed firm commitments for 53 A321NEOs, four A320NEOS and 24 current-model A321s. The deal also includes options for 35 A321NEOs.
