He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Saudi Arabian Airlines’ CEO Khalid Almolhem is strongly in favor of his government selling the airline to private investors, but sees little prospect of that in the short term. “Privatizing the airline will be very difficult as long as there are pricing caps in the domestic market. But it would make much sense for me to be away from the government,” Almolhem said yesterday at the Arab Air Carriers Organization annual general meeting in Doha.
Last year, the Arab Air Carrier Organization (AACO) chose a trip into the region's past by picking Algerian capital Algiers as the site for its annual general meeting. It was a surreal event in many ways: A lot of attendees did not even get to Algeria because they could not obtain visas, and those who were able to travel there were stuck in a highly protected luxury hotel above the city. Anyone who wanted to take a stroll was supposed to do so only with a bodyguard.
