He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.

Now, with the A320neo set to start flight tests in October, industry sources claim that Airbus is shifting its focus to avionics, cabin and other system improvements that could sustain the A320 well into the 2020s.
The stronger focus on a defined catalogue for interior options in the Airbus A350 is reducing complexity and effort for suppliers, Diehl Aerosystems CEO Rainer von Borstel says. “It is significantly less,” he told Aviation Week on the sidelines of the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, comparing the A350 to the experience on the A380.
Lufthansa and its pilots union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) have agreed to resume talks over a future early retirement plan and a new pay deal following a pilots strike that essentially grounded the airline for three days last week. Neither the union nor Lufthansa revealed further details about when they will meet or what other progress may have been made.
