Based in Washington, Jen managed Aviation Week’s worldwide defense, space and security coverage from 2013 to January 2024.
Prior to taking on the Executive Editor role, Jen was Aviation Week's Congressional Editor. Jen came to Aviation Week in March 2011 from Politico, where she covered the intersection of defense and politics. She also worked as a reporter and editor for Defense Daily, Inside the Army, The Other Paper and The Columbus Dispatch.
Jen received a Master’s degree in journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow at the Ohio State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from the University of Michigan.
The death of Osama bin Laden may prompt calls to quicken the pace of withdrawal from Afghanistan and to magnify the push to cut defense dollars, but those are not coming from the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee. Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) told reporters May 2 that the Al Qaeda leader’s death had changed little on either front. “My position is we need to find savings in the defense budget,” Levin said during a conference call. “The need was there before. The need is still there after.”
In a distinct departure from the past, before the House Armed Services Committee (HASC) meets to mark up the 2012 defense authorization bill the committee will release copies of the bill and accompanying report language to the public.
