Based in Washington, Jen managed Aviation Week’s worldwide defense, space and security coverage from 2013 to January 2024.
Prior to taking on the Executive Editor role, Jen was Aviation Week's Congressional Editor. Jen came to Aviation Week in March 2011 from Politico, where she covered the intersection of defense and politics. She also worked as a reporter and editor for Defense Daily, Inside the Army, The Other Paper and The Columbus Dispatch.
Jen received a Master’s degree in journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow at the Ohio State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from the University of Michigan.
The chairman of the House Transportation Committee insists the FAA reauthorization bill is “close, very close” to a resolution. Rep. John Mica (R-Fla.) says he is working with House leadership on the timing of a vote and securing a “gentlemen’s agreement” on the remaining conference issues in the bill.
LET’S STRATEGIZE: Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) called for a national aerospace strategy in a speech May 24 before the Senate Aerospace Caucus. The chair of the Senate Appropriations transportation subcommittee says companies large and small have told her “‘We need a comprehensive national strategy for aerospace.’ The U.S. government has to be a strong partner in that.” In addition to improving the aerospace workforce, beefing up research efforts and improving civil aviation, the U.S.
The Obama administration is threatening to veto the version of the defense authorization bill being debated by the U.S. House of Representatives over an issue involving the General Electric/Rolls-Royce F136 alternate engine for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. The administration last year wielded the veto threat over any attempts to fund the alternate engine and successfully fended off efforts to add money for the F136.
