Prior to taking on the Executive Editor role, Jen was Aviation Week's Congressional Editor. Jen came to Aviation Week in March 2011 from Politico, where she covered the intersection of defense and politics. She also worked as a reporter and editor for Defense Daily, Inside the Army, The Other Paper and The Columbus Dispatch.
Jen received a Master’s degree in journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow at the Ohio State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from the University of Michigan.
Comprehensive FAA reauthorization awaits President Barack Obama’s signature after the Senate approved the bill 75-20 on Feb. 6, ending a nearly five-year stalemate that led to 23 short-term extensions of FAA’s operating authority.
It took Congress seven years and 23 extensions to pass a bill to authorize funding and set policies for the FAA for the next four years. It took makers and users of NextGen air traffic management equipment about a day to recognize that while the FAA reauthorization bill makes welcome changes, realizing the full benefits of air traffic modernization is still a long way off. The funding picture in the bill is not quite what industry had hoped, and all signs point to the fact that it is not likely to get much better.
With looming slowdowns to the development of a new generation of U.S. ballistic missile submarines and a nuclear bomb life-extension program, the House of Representatives is set to become the battlefield for a growing fight over potential reductions to what the Obama administration had pledged to spend on nuclear modernization over the next 10 years.
