Prior to taking on the Executive Editor role, Jen was Aviation Week's Congressional Editor. Jen came to Aviation Week in March 2011 from Politico, where she covered the intersection of defense and politics. She also worked as a reporter and editor for Defense Daily, Inside the Army, The Other Paper and The Columbus Dispatch.
Jen received a Master’s degree in journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow at the Ohio State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from the University of Michigan.
The nomination of Mark Lippert as assistant secretary of defense for Asia-Pacific security affairs, which was on hold for a nearly one year, is being further delayed in an attempt to bolster the Taiwanese air force. The U.S. Army is hoping that foreign military sales and public-private partnerships can bridge a looming production gap of medium and heavy combat vehicles, its leaders told lawmakers Feb. 17. The Army’s future spending plan proposes stopping production of General Dynamics M1 Abrams tanks and Stryker vehicles and BAE Systems Bradley Fighting Vehicles. Last year, Congress added money to continue production of Abrams tanks, which are built in Lima, Ohio.
When it comes to biofuels for aviation, Washington state has it all—a major aircraft producer in Boeing, a major carrier in Alaska Airlines, a large military presence, plenty of feedstock in forestry and farming—and advocates on Capitol Hill, such as Sen. Maria Cantwell.
