Based in Washington, Jen managed Aviation Week’s worldwide defense, space and security coverage from 2013 to January 2024.
Prior to taking on the Executive Editor role, Jen was Aviation Week's Congressional Editor. Jen came to Aviation Week in March 2011 from Politico, where she covered the intersection of defense and politics. She also worked as a reporter and editor for Defense Daily, Inside the Army, The Other Paper and The Columbus Dispatch.
Jen received a Master’s degree in journalism as a Kiplinger Fellow at the Ohio State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from the University of Michigan.
If the House was displeased by the U.S. Air Force’s plan to scale back the Air National Guard, the Senate is equally annoyed. In fact, one of the top senators on National Guard matters is bothered by the lack of analysis provided by the Air Force to support its Air Guard budget decisions. A May 23 hearing of the Senate Appropriations defense subcommittee allowed Guard officials to vent as much as they could publicly about how the active duty Air Force overrode their suggestions on how to trim the budget.
RAPTOR WATCH: All eyes are now on the U.S. Air Force’s F-22 Raptor. Given the Lockheed Martin fighter’s problems with its oxygen-delivery system, on May 15 Defense Secretary Leon Panetta placed restrictions on the jet’s operations. And Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, is asking what kind of impact this will have on operation, training and ultimately the nation’s security.
The House is expected to vote this week on a bill that calls on the Pentagon to start on an East Coast Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) system site.
